Ramming process reduces effort and costs for motorway drainage

As open construction would have involved major traffic disruption and high repair costs, a gentle trenchless solution was the only option. To install a 40 m long steel pipe with a diameter of 2,200 mm under the motorway, TRACTO's biggest horizontal rammer was used. The 11.5-ton GRUNDORAM APOLLO was purchased for this particular project because the low vibration ramming method could be applied without damaging the asphalt surface, even while traffic remained on the A7 motorway.

With its impact power of 40.500 J, the APOLLO proved to be the ideal choice for this type of project and the 40 m long construction section was completed in just two weeks. This saved not only time and resources, but also avoided the shutdown of the motorway and reconstruction costs of over 250,000€. The excess water is now collected in various retention and cleaning reservoirs before being channeled into a canal that leads to the river Danube.
