The bursting procedure is used when the function of the old pipe is disturbed, e.g. in the case of offsets, cracks, missing invert or partial collapse, or when repair/renovation is no longer possible. The method is also suitable for pipelines whose hydraulic capacity is to be capacity is to be improved or when a new pipe with a new wear reserve is desired. It is suitable for the renewal of pressure pipes (gas, water) and gravity pipes (sewage).

During pipe renewal using the dynamic bursting method, defective old pipes for sewage, gas, water made of vitrified clay, asbestos and fibre cement, grey cast iron, plastic or concrete are smashed with dynamic pile driving energy and at the same time new pipes made of PE-HD (long or short pipes) or PVC-U (short pipes) of the same or larger nominal diameter are pulled in. For this purpose, the compressed air-driven GRUNDOCRACK machine drives through the old pipe, shatters it and displaces the shards radially into the surrounding soil. The attached new pipe is simultaneously pulled into the existing route.

The propulsion of the bursting machine is supported by a cable winch, whose tractive force guarantees safe guidance in the specified route. A great advantage of the dynamic bursting method, apart from its simplicity, is that shafts can also be passed through during the pipe renewal from pit to pit.
