As open construction would have meant major traffic disruption and high repair costs, a gentle trenchless solution was the only option. TRACTO's largest horizontal pile driver was used to install a 40m steel pipe with a diameter of 2,200mm under the motorway. The 11.5 tonne GRUNDORAM APOLLO was purchased for this particular project because the low-vibration ramming method could be used without damaging the asphalt surface while traffic on the A7 motorway kept flowing.
With its impact power of 40.500 J, the APOLLO proved to be the ideal choice for this type of project and the 40 m long construction section was completed in just two weeks. This saved not only time and resources, but also avoided the shutdown of the motorway and reconstruction costs of over 250,000€. The excess water is now collected in various retention and cleaning reservoirs before being channeled into a canal that leads to the river Danube.
