Uphill in the spa town: new water pipeline through steep slope

Complex geologies and impassable terrain require special technology. The solution here lay in the steerable HDD process with a mini drilling system, which not only allows highly demanding but also efficient operations. The GRUNDOPIT PS60 made it possible in the spa town of Cochem on the Moselle river to do what would have been unthinkable using conventional methods - install a new water pipeline through a densely built-up steep slope, in the shortest possible time.

Thanks to the use of the small, powerful GRUNDOPIT PS60 with "Hard Drill Head", even the rocky, loamy and partly lava rock subsoil was no longer an obstacle. Trenchless, and without affecting gardens or building developments, the new pipeline could be laid over around 50 m in only one and a half days, guaranteeing the water supply for the house owner.

Key facts

  • Cochem / Germany, 2020

  • Application: Water pipeline construction
  • Method: Steerable HDD method
  • Machine used: GRUNDOPIT PS60
